Bishkek Central Mosque

Address Gogolya Street, Bishkek

A vast white mosque north-east of the centre, opened in 2018 and the largest in Central Asia at the time. Funded substantially by Turkey, the mosque holds 20,000 worshippers under a central dome flanked by four minarets in a deliberately Ottoman, rather than Central Asian, style. The interior is light and uncluttered — white marble, blue Iznik-style tiles, simple Quranic calligraphy in gold.

The mosque is open to non-Muslims outside prayer times; modest dress is essential and women must cover their heads. Friday lunchtime is the busiest service.
