Bishkek's drinking scene divides between low-key Soviet-era beer bars, slick modern cocktail spots aimed at the diplomatic and expat crowd, and a recent wave of independent specialty coffee shops. The city is largely Muslim by background but not religiously observant in practice, and drinking is uncomplicated. Most bars stay open until midnight or one; a handful go later, particularly on Tynystanov and Toktogul streets.
The cafe culture has improved dramatically since 2015, with several roasters now sourcing and roasting their own beans. Sierra Coffee and Adriano are the established names; smaller independent places like Bublik and Coffee Boom turn up on most main streets.
