Dordoi Bazaar

Address Northern Bishkek

If Osh Bazaar overwhelms you, Dordoi will floor you. Bishkek's wholesale bazaar sprawls across the northern edge of the city — endless rows of double-stacked shipping containers selling Chinese-import everything: clothing by the bale, electronics, household goods, hardware, fake brand-name shoes. Most of the action is wholesale, but everything is for sale to retail buyers at small mark-ups.

Take a taxi out (it is about 6 km from the centre) and allow a couple of hours just to walk one section. The food courts have very good cheap shashlik and laghman.

A story
Dordoi is one of the largest wholesale bazaars in Central Asia, with an estimated 40,000 vendors operating from stacked shipping containers across more than 100 hectares. For two decades it was the main re-export hub for Chinese consumer goods into the former Soviet Union; the introduction of Russian customs union rules in 2010 cut the volume significantly but it remains enormous.
