A leafy Soviet-era park between Frunze Street and the Old Square, named for Ivan Panfilov, the Almaty-born general who died defending Moscow in 1941. The park functions today as a low-key amusement ground — a small Ferris wheel, bumper cars, a sad-eyed handful of carousel ponies — alongside long shaded paths that are pleasant in the heat of a Bishkek summer afternoon.
It is the kind of place where families gather on weekends and pensioners play chess on the benches. The park's eastern edge meets the Soviet-era Old Square, where you can still see the original Lenin statue and the parliament building.
