The newer southern districts of the city — roughly south of the Southern Highway — house a growing share of Bishkek's middle class. The streets here are wider and the architecture mostly post-Soviet, with new apartment complexes interspersed with single-storey village-style houses on long plots. Atatürk Park sits at the rough centre.
Less to see than the centre for a short-term visitor, but worth a wander if you stay in one of the area's increasingly common apartment rentals. The view of the Kyrgyz Ala-Too from anywhere here is dramatic in the morning light.
