Plain of Jars — Site 2

Site 2 is around 25 kilometres south of Phonsavan and split between two adjacent hilltops. The setting — a quiet pine ridge with views down across rice paddies — is the prettiest of the open jar sites, and the smaller scale (about 90 jars) makes it a more contemplative visit than Site 1.

The jars at Site 2 are notable for being grouped under and around old shade trees, the roots of which have gradually wrapped around several of the vessels. As at all the sites, stay on the marked paths. Most visitors combine it with Site 3 on a single half-day trip from town.
