Plain of Jars — Site 3

Site 3 is the most atmospheric of the three principal jar sites — about 150 jars on a forested hilltop reached by a short path through paddies and a bamboo bridge over a stream. The walk in, around twenty minutes from the road, weeds out the bus tours.

The site sees a fraction of the traffic that Site 1 gets, and it is easier to imagine the original purpose of the jars when there is nobody else around. The views from the top, back across the valley, take in the small village of Ban Xieng Di on the way in.
