Situated next to the Presidential Palace, this former royal temple once housed the Emerald Buddha, which was taken by the Thais in 1779 and now sits in Bangkok's Grand Palace. The temple has been rebuilt several times and now serves as a museum of Buddhist art, with a fine collection of Lao and Khmer sculptures. The surrounding gardens are a peaceful place to sit.
