Souk el Tayeb is Beirut's farmers' market — Lebanon's first, founded in 2004 by Kamal Mouzawak. It runs every Saturday morning in the Beirut Souks area downtown, with around 80 producers selling vegetables, cheese, olive oil, bread, honey, preserves and traditional sweets.
It is the most concentrated dose of rural Lebanese produce you will get in the city, and a good place to taste village foods you would otherwise have to travel for: kishk, makdous, freekeh. The associated Tawlet restaurant grew out of the same project.
