Bako National Park

Bako National Park is the classic first wildlife trip from Kuching. It packs beaches, mangroves, rainforest, sandstone cliffs, pitcher plants, macaques, bearded pigs, and proboscis monkeys into a compact peninsula reached by road and boat.

Trails range from short boardwalk strolls to sweaty day walks. Stay overnight if you can; the park changes character once the day visitors leave.

A story
Bako is one of the easiest places in Borneo to see proboscis monkeys, the long-nosed primates found only on the island. They often appear near park headquarters, which feels almost too generous after the usual effort wildlife watching demands.
