5 Blogs That Eat Their Way Through George Town

Two decades of hawker-stall reviews, a Lonely Planet author who moved to Penang in 2009, and the local food press that keeps score

George Town is a food city that happens to have a UNESCO-listed shophouse core attached, and the blogs that cover it well are, almost without exception, food blogs. Between these five you get char kway teow rankings that people argue about, the specific stalls that close when the owner feels like it, the clan jetties and the street art, and the cafés that opened last month in a restored godown.

Two of these are written by people who have lived on the island for well over a decade. Trust them on which curry mee is worth the queue; the fifth is here for when you want to get off Penang and into the rest of Malaysia.
