Dutch Square

Dutch Square is the red-painted colonial heart of Melaka, framed by Christ Church, the Stadthuys, and the Tang Beng Swee Clock Tower. The clock tower looks Dutch at first glance, but was built in 1886 by a local Chinese family.

The square is busy and heavily photographed, but it remains the simplest place to read Melaka's layered history: Dutch civic buildings, later British rule, Chinese patronage, and modern tourism all pressed into one compact space.
