Jalan Hang Jebat, still widely known as Jonker Street, is the heart of Melaka's Chinatown and one of Southeast Asia's best-known antique hunting grounds. The shophouses lining both sides sell everything from 300-year-old Peranakan ceramics and Dutch colonial furniture to vintage tin signs and old coins. On Friday and Saturday evenings the road closes to traffic for a bustling night market with street food stalls, live music, and craft vendors. During the day it's quieter — a good time to poke around the antique shops and stop for Nyonya laksa or cendol at one of the old shopfront restaurants.
