Melaka Straits Mosque stands on Pulau Melaka, a man-made island just off the coast of the old city. At high tide the building appears to float above the water, and its arches, dome, and minaret are especially striking around sunset.
It is worth the short trip from the heritage core if you want a different view of Melaka beyond the Dutch and Portuguese remains. Dress modestly and check visitor access before entering, as it remains an active mosque.
