Stadthuys

Oldest Dutch building in Asia, now a history museum

Built in 1650 as the official residence of the Dutch Governors, the Stadthuys is the oldest surviving Dutch colonial building in Asia. The striking red facade sits right in the heart of Melaka town, making it an unavoidable landmark.

Today it houses the Historical Museum and Ethnography Museum, with displays of traditional bridal costumes, colonial-era relics, and artefacts from the city's trading past. The clock tower and the fountain out front — dedicated to Queen Victoria by the people of Malaya in 1904 — are favourite photography spots.
