Kampung Koh is the oldest part of Sitiawan, where the first Fuzhou settlers established the town in 1903. The neighbourhood retains a character distinct from the rest of Sitiawan โ shophouses with faded signage in Fuzhou dialect, a cluster of historic institutions including the Settlement Museum and the Chinese Methodist Church, and a slower pace than the newer parts of town.
Walking through Kampung Koh takes an hour or two. The streets are quiet enough to wander without a plan. The mix of architecture โ Chinese shophouses, colonial-era mission buildings, and modest residential lanes โ tells the story of the community's three generations in Malaya. The best kong piang bakeries are here, and the morning market on the main road is worth catching early.
