Henveiru is the easternmost of Malé's four traditional districts and the one most visitors will spend their time in. It runs from Republic Square and the Islamic Centre south along the artificial beach, and includes Sultan Park, the National Museum, the Old Friday Mosque and the President's residence. Most of the historic mosques and the heaviest concentration of cafés sit inside its rough boundary.
The grid of narrow streets is easy to walk — nothing in Henveiru is more than fifteen minutes from anywhere else in Henveiru — and the eastern waterfront has the city's best stretch of seafront promenade.
