South Malé Atoll is reached from Velana International Airport (MLE) on Hulhulé island, immediately north of Malé.
To resort islands: Most South Malé resorts arrange speedboat transfers from the airport jetty as part of the booking. Transfer time is 30 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on the island. A few of the more distant resorts use seaplanes instead.
To local islands: Maafushi, Guraidhoo, and Gulhi are all served by the public ferry from Malé (around 90 minutes; ~$3) and by faster privately-operated speedboats (45 minutes; ~$25). The public ferry runs only on certain days of the week; check the MTCC schedule. Speedboats run several times a day and can be booked online.
Inter-island travel within the atoll is by dhoni (traditional boat) or speedboat. Most guesthouses can arrange transfers to neighbouring islands as part of an excursion package.
