Taikhar Rock is a strange, lonely granite mass standing in the Tamir River valley west of Tsetserleg. Its shape would be enough to make it a roadside stop, but the old Tibetan and Mongolian inscriptions on the stone give it an extra layer of story.
The rock is best treated as a short detour while travelling through Arkhangai rather than a full expedition. Bring a camera, walk around it, and look back across the open valley to understand why such a visible object gathered legends.
