Getting There

Undurkhaan, the provincial capital, is connected to Ulaanbaatar by a partially paved road of roughly 330 km — expect five to eight hours depending on conditions. Minivan shared taxis depart daily from the Dragon Centre bus station in Ulaanbaatar. There is a small airstrip serving charter flights but no regular scheduled service.

Beyond Undurkhaan, the roads deteriorate sharply. Reaching Dadal (the main Genghis Khan heritage site) involves another 250 km of rough track, passable with a reliable 4WD. Many visitors join organised tours from Ulaanbaatar that include transport, guide, and ger camp accommodation — this is the most practical approach for first-time visitors to the province.
