Mahamuni Paya contains a century-old replica of the revered Mahamuni Buddha image in Mandalay. It is smaller and quieter than the original shrine, but that can make the visit more rewarding: you can see the image closely without the same crowds or ceremony.
The pagoda sits within easy reach of central Mawlamyine and works well as part of a town walk. Women can get closer to the image here than at Mandalay's Mahamuni Paya, and the atmosphere is calmer.
