Uzina Pagoda

The northernmost of the pagodas strung along the ridge above Mawlamyaing, Uzina Paya is less visited than Kyaikthanlan but arguably more attractive — a large gilded stupa surrounded by a series of terraced gardens and smaller shrines, with a serene reclining Buddha in one of the pavilions. The compound is well maintained and quietly busy with local worshippers throughout the day.

The views from Uzina take in the northern reaches of town and the bend of the Thanlwin River. Walking the full ridge from Uzina south to Kyaikthanlan and down through the market takes a leisurely two hours; hiring a motorbike taxi for the uphill section is sensible if you are not in a rush.
