A graceful temple immediately east of Shite-thaung, Andaw-thein was built in 1521 to house a tooth-relic of the Buddha brought from Sri Lanka. It is a smaller, more delicate structure than its neighbours — an octagonal central tower surrounded by eight smaller pinnacles, all in dark stone with carved cornices.
Inside, a single dim chamber holds a Buddha image and the relic shrine. The temple's setting on a low rise, with stupas dotting the hillside around it, is one of the most photographed views in Mrauk-U at sunrise. Combine the visit with Shite-thaung and Ratanabon, all within a 15-minute walk.
