Butwal is primarily a transit city, but it has a handful of worthwhile stops for travellers who find themselves here. The dramatic Siddha Baba temple at the mouth of the Tinau gorge is the main sight; the historical fort at Jit Gadhi and Manimukunda Sen Park round out a half-day of local exploration. Most visitors use Butwal as a base for day trips to Lumbini.
