A short walk west of Durbar Square, Pimbahal is a large rectangular pond surrounded by a low brick wall and a few small temples. The Chandeshwari temple on its bank is the main draw — a small pagoda dedicated to the goddess who defeated the demon Chandasura. A standalone Buddhist stupa from the Licchavi period stands in the same square.
The pond was drained and restored after years of neglect and now functions as a kind of communal sitting room: school children, old men, vendors, women fetching water. There is little explanation in English, but that is part of the appeal. It feels lived-in rather than curated.
