Panauti is compact and best explored on foot in half a day. The Indreshwar Mahadev Temple is the centrepiece and reason most visitors come. The Brahmayani Temple at the river confluence is the second major religious site. The Unmatta Bhairav Temple and the carved wooden architecture of the old quarters make for good wandering. The town rewards slow walking rather than itinerary-ticking.
