The Tongil ("Unification") Restaurant is one of the standard lunch stops for tours visiting Kaesong. It occupies a low traditional-style building near the old city centre and serves the Kaesong specialities — pansangki tray meals, ginseng chicken soup, kimchi, and a steady parade of side dishes.
The food is reliably good — the pansangki here is one of the better versions on a North Korea tour, with eleven or thirteen bowls including stewed pumpkin, marinated vegetables, dried fish, and beef ribs. The atmosphere is more functional than refined: groups of foreign tourists in a large communal hall. Alcohol — Taedonggang beer or local soju — is available and reasonably priced.
