The 45-kilometre road between Hajira and Rawalakot is among the most scenic drives in Poonch District, winding through pine and deodar forest along ridges that offer repeated long views down into wooded valleys. This is not a fast road — the bends are tight and the surface demands attention — but the journey through this landscape is itself a reason to travel slowly.
Several viewpoints along the route offer places to stop and look out over the hills toward the Line of Control. The forests on either side of the road are dense enough that wildlife — mostly birds, occasional monkeys — is visible from the car. The best light falls in the morning, when the valleys are clear before haze builds. In autumn, when the deodar forest turns golden, the drive is at its most attractive. Shared wagons between Hajira and Rawalakot cover this route throughout daylight hours.
