PWD Rest House Hill Viewpoint

The PWD (Public Works Department) Rest House stands on a hill above Pallandri and offers one of the best viewpoints over the surrounding valley. The view from here takes in the layers of forested ridges that define the Sudhnoti landscape — pine and cedar forests rolling away in all directions, with glimpses of the higher peaks of the Pir Panjal range to the north.

The hilltop is a short walk from the town center and is the most accessible viewpoint in the immediate area. The rest house itself is used by government officials and is not open to independent travelers, but the surrounding grounds and the path to the hilltop are accessible. Early morning visits, before the valley haze builds, give the clearest views.

A story
Pallandri served as the first capital of Azad Kashmir after Partition in 1947, before the capital was moved to Muzaffarabad. The PWD Rest House on the hilltop above town dates from that early period and preserves something of the administrative atmosphere of those first turbulent years.
