Garatapar Waterfall

Garatapar Waterfall is one of the most visited natural attractions in Sudhnoti District, located about 32 km from Pallandri on the Pallandri-Hajira road near the village of Tarar Khel. The falls cascade over a broad rock face and are most dramatic after the monsoon rains, when the volume and noise increase substantially. The setting — forested hillsides, mountain air, the sound of rushing water — is exactly what people come to the hills of Azad Kashmir to find.

The waterfall is accessible by road, though the final approach involves some walking over uneven terrain. There are no facilities at the site beyond what locals provide informally. The altitude here is around 1,980 metres, so it is noticeably cooler than Pallandri town. The falls are most impressive between July and September; in the dry season the flow reduces considerably.

A story
The name "Garatapar" is a local Pahadi term referring to the thundering sound the waterfall makes in the monsoon season, when the flow increases dramatically and the sound can be heard from a considerable distance across the valley.
