Uch Sharif (75km west) is an ancient town with significant Sufi heritage. The tomb of Bibi Jawindi (15th century), decorated with blue and white tilework, is among the finest examples of early Islamic funerary architecture in the subcontinent. Several other shrines and mausoleums cluster in the old town. Young men from the village offer guided tours through the backstreets for a small fee.
Lal Suhanra National Park (35km east) is a large protected area of desert, scrubland, and wetlands with blackbuck antelope, chinkara gazelle, nilgai, and migratory birds. The park has rest houses and camping facilities. A morning visit to spot wildlife at the lake is rewarding.
Derawar Fort (around 100km south, in the Cholistan Desert) is possible as a long day trip with a hired vehicle. The fort is the centrepiece; the adjacent Abbasi Mosque and royal tombs add to the visit. The drive through the Cholistan is itself part of the experience.
