Lal Suhanra National Park protects about 153,000 hectares of desert, scrubland, and wetland 35 kilometres east of Bahawalpur. The park's lake and marshes attract thousands of migratory waterbirds in winter — bar-headed geese, mallards, and various waders pass through — while the drier sections shelter blackbuck antelope, chinkara gazelle, and nilgai. Urial (Punjab urial sheep) and blue bull are also present.
The park has rest houses and picnic areas run by the Punjab Wildlife Department, and guided jeep safaris can be arranged. Early morning is the best time for wildlife, when animals come to drink at the lake. The road from Bahawalpur is paved and manageable in a standard vehicle.
