The Ghulkin Glacier descends from the peaks above the village to within easy walking distance of the houses — a one-hour trek from the village centre brings you to the snout. At roughly 17 kilometres long and up to four kilometres wide, it is one of the larger valley glaciers accessible from a road in the Karakoram.
The surface of the glacier is broken and dirty near the terminus — dark moraines and meltwater channels cut across grey ice — but the views from the edge across to the Passu peaks and up toward the accumulation zone are impressive. The path to the glacier crosses cultivated fields before climbing onto lateral moraine; no technical equipment is needed, but the surface is loose and requires care. Local guides from the village can accompany visitors who want to go further up onto the ice.
