The Buddhist Stupa is the highest and most visible structure at Mohenjo-daro, rising above the citadel mound. It belongs to the Kushan period, long after the ancient Indus city had been abandoned, and is thought to stand over an earlier temple site.
Its later date makes it different from the excavated Indus ruins around it, but that contrast is exactly why it is worth noticing. The stupa also appears on Pakistan's twenty-rupee note.
