Sheosar Lake

High-altitude lake on the Deosai Plateau, blue against the wildflowers

Sheosar Lake is a high-altitude lake at 4,142 metres on the Deosai Plateau, about three hours' drive south of Skardu in summer. The name means "blind lake" in Balti — its still, deep blue water sits in a shallow basin with no obvious inflow or outflow.

In July and August the meadows around the lake are covered in wildflowers and the area is popular with photographers. Simple campsites operate around the shore in summer; conditions are basic and the altitude needs respect. The road over Deosai is open only from late June to early October.
