Iloilo City is relatively compact and manageable by the standard Philippine combination of jeepney, tricycle, and taxi.
Jeepneys are the main mode of transport and cover most major routes through the city. Fares are fixed and low. The challenge for newcomers is knowing which jeepney to take — routes are written on the vehicle but not always clearly. Asking a local or the driver is the most reliable method.
Tricycles (motorcycle with sidecar) serve shorter routes and the narrower streets in residential areas. They operate at fixed fares within a zone but can be chartered for longer trips.
Taxis are widely available and metered. The flag-down rate is low by international standards. Grab (the regional ride-hailing app) operates in Iloilo and is generally the most convenient option for visitors.
For visiting Jaro district (cathedral, belfry, heritage houses), a tricycle or taxi from the city centre is simplest. Miagao Church requires a bus or van from the terminal at Iloilo City Market, about 1.5 hours each way. Guimaras Island is reached by pump boat from Parola Wharf.
