Guimaras Island Day Trip

Guimaras Island is a 15-minute pump boat ride from the Parola wharf in Iloilo City, making it one of the easiest island day trips in the Philippines. The island is a province in its own right, with a small capital town and a quiet rural character — a direct contrast to the urban energy of Iloilo across the narrow strait. The mangoes grown here are widely regarded as the best in the Philippines, and the mango farms that cover much of the island's interior can be visited during harvest season (March through May).

Beyond mangoes, Guimaras has clean beaches on its southern and western coasts, notably Alubihod Beach and Natago Beach, as well as several small islands offshore accessible by chartered pump boat. The pace is genuinely slow — it is the right place to spend a day or two if Iloilo's urban bustle becomes tiring. Frequent pump boats from Parola wharf run from early morning until late afternoon.

A story
Guimaras is best known for its mangoes — the Iloilo variety grown here is consistently rated among the finest in the world, with a flavour that won a national competition for sweetest mango in 1996 and has remained the standard by which other Philippine mangoes are judged. The island suffered a catastrophic oil spill in 2006 when a tanker sank in the strait, but cleanup and recovery have been extensive and the beaches and marine environment have largely recovered.
