Makati has a concentration of rooftop bars at the top end of its hotel and residential towers that offer a very different experience from the street-level scene in Poblacion. At height the city breeze makes the tropical heat bearable even in the warmer months, and the views across the Metro Manila skyline — a glittering carpet of lights extending to the horizon in every direction — are genuinely impressive at night.
Several of the larger hotels along Ayala Avenue and in the Legaspi Village area operate rooftop or high-floor bars open to non-guests. Dress codes are loosely enforced (smart casual is generally safe), and drinks prices are at the premium end of the Manila scale. The atmosphere tends toward the civilised — background music, cocktail menus, and a crowd that skews towards expats, business travellers, and local professionals celebrating something. These are not the places for a raucous night out but are excellent for sundowners or a drink before heading somewhere livelier.
Book or arrive early for the best terrace spots, particularly at weekends. The view of the Ayala Triangle Gardens from above during the December Christmas light show is particularly dramatic. Several rooftop venues are positioned to look south-west, which means spectacular sunset views in the dry season months when haze is minimal.
