When to Go

Marawi sits at 700 metres above sea level, which keeps the temperatures notably cooler and more pleasant than the rest of Mindanao — daytime highs in the low 20s°C year-round, nights that can drop to 15°C. The wet season runs roughly June to November, with the heaviest rain in July and August. The drier months from December to May are the better time to visit.

Ramadan transforms the city: most restaurants are closed during the day, the call to prayer fills the evenings, and the night markets that pop up after iftar are the best food on offer. Travellers welcome but should be sensitive to the rhythm of the month. The Marawi Founding Anniversary in early September is the main civic event, with parades, kulintang music, and brassware exhibitions.

Travel advisories from major embassies still apply. Check current conditions and consider going with a local guide rather than solo.
