Christ the Divine Mercy Shrine

A large devotional statue of Jesus on a hilltop south of the city centre, one of Cagayan de Oro's most visited sites. The Christ of the Divine Mercy stands 50 feet tall on a base that encloses a small chapel and a stairway leading up through the statue itself — an unusual structural conceit that draws both pilgrims and the curious. The hilltop location gives views over the city and Macajalar Bay on clear days.

To reach it, take a jeepney heading south toward Consolacion or hire a tricycle from the city centre (about 30 pesos). The site is open to visitors throughout the day and is free, though donations are accepted. Dress modestly as this is an active place of worship.

A story
The statue — 50 feet tall and visible from much of the city's southern districts — contains an internal stairway that takes pilgrims up through the structure and into the figure's chest, where a small chapel has been built. The design is deliberately symbolic: you enter the body of Christ to pray within it. For visitors who are not Catholic pilgrims, it remains one of the stranger architectural experiences in Mindanao.
