Saint Augustine Metropolitan Cathedral

The Catholic cathedral at the centre of Cagayan de Oro, dedicated to Saint Augustine and serving as the seat of the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro. The current structure dates from the early 20th century, built on the site of earlier churches that trace back to Spanish colonial times. The cathedral faces Gaston Park, the central public square of the old city, which makes the approach pleasant on foot.

The interior is unremarkable by Philippine Catholic standards, but the cathedral is the anchor of the city's historic core and worth a brief visit to understand the colonial layout of the city. Mass times are posted at the entrance; the morning masses draw large crowds.

Gaston Park, Cagayan de Oro city centre. Open daily.
