Port of Ozamiz

The Port of Ozamiz is a working commercial harbour that has been at the centre of the city's economic life since the Spanish period. It sits at the southern end of the bayfront, just below the old fort, and the juxtaposition is striking: colonial-era stonework looking down over ferry terminals and cargo cranes. The port handles shipping to Cebu, Manila, and Iligan, and passenger numbers have rebounded strongly since the pandemic, with nearly 1.8 million travellers passing through in 2023.

For visitors, the port area is interesting primarily as a piece of living urban infrastructure — messy, active, and very Filipino. If you are arriving by sea, the approach into Panguil Bay, with the fort visible on the headland and the cathedral tower rising behind it, is a good introduction to the city. The port is also adjacent to the main market district, so arriving passengers quickly find themselves in the thick of things.
