Pinto Art Museum

Hilltop contemporary Filipino art museum in a Mediterranean-style compound

One of the best contemporary art museums in the Philippines, set in a compound of whitewashed buildings on a wooded hillside outside Antipolo. The collection covers Filipino artists of the past three decades — Manuel Ocampo, Elmer Borlongan, Mark Justiniani, Marina Cruz, and many others — across six interconnected galleries and a sculpture garden.

The setting itself is part of the appeal: Mediterranean-style walls, fountains, and viewpoints over the valley. There is an organic café in the grounds. Closed Mondays. Allow at least two hours.

A story
The museum was assembled by neurologist and collector Dr. Joven Cuanang on the grounds of his weekend home. The white Santorini-style buildings were designed by Antonio Leaño and inspired by Cuanang's travels in Greece. He named the museum 'Pintô' — Tagalog for 'door' — because, in his words, art is a door to perception.
