Borongan Cathedral

The Cathedral Parish of the Nativity of Our Lady — known as Borongan Cathedral — is the mother church of the Diocese of Borongan and the oldest significant building in the city. The cathedral sits on the central plaza, as is traditional in Philippine towns founded during the Spanish colonial period, and its stone facade is one of the few structures that gives Borongan a sense of historical depth.

The interior is decorated in the colourful style typical of Philippine Catholic churches, with a vaulted ceiling and a prominent altar. The cathedral remains an active parish church and the centre of religious life for the largely Catholic population of Eastern Samar. Sunday masses draw large congregations. The plaza in front of the cathedral is a pleasant place to sit in the evenings.
