Cabong Beach is the main swimming beach near Borongan, with calm grey-sand shoreline that is safe for families and casual swimmers for much of the year. The beach is easily accessible from the city centre and is popular with locals in the late afternoons and on weekends. The sand is fine and dark grey — characteristic of volcanic Philippine coastlines — and the water is generally clear in the dry season.
The beach is undeveloped in the manner of Boracay or the established resorts of Cebu, which is its appeal. You will find a few food stalls and basic amenities but no resort infrastructure to speak of. Early mornings are the best time to visit, before the heat builds. Be aware that during typhoon season — roughly November to January — the Pacific-facing coast can get strong swells and is not suitable for swimming.
