Southern Leyte State University is a public university based in Sogod, the main institution of higher education in the province. The campus is the largest in the town and gives Sogod more of a student-town feel than the purely commercial character of many Philippine provincial municipalities.
The university is not a conventional tourist sight, but the campus is pleasant and open, and the presence of students gives the town some social energy that a pure market town might lack.
