The Subangdaku River is the largest river in Southern Leyte, flowing past Sogod on its way to Sogod Bay. It is primarily a working river — locals fish it, water buffalo drink from it, children swim in the shallower sections — but for travellers who take the time to walk down to it, it offers a genuine window into Philippine provincial river life.
The river banks near the town are accessible by a short walk from the market area. The water is cleanest upriver from the town in the dry season (November to April). In the wet season the river runs brown and fast and is not suitable for swimming. Local fishing boats use the lower reaches; the upper reaches are quieter and more scenic. There are no facilities.
