Bars and Cafes

Vigan is not a nightlife destination. The heritage zone quiets down after dark — the kalesas disappear, the souvenir shops close — but the evenings have their own appeal. The Plaza Salcedo fountain-and-light show draws crowds of locals and visitors each night, and the streets around it stay lively until around nine or ten. Several of the heritage restaurants keep their kitchens open late and serve beer alongside food. There are a handful of small bars in the streets near the plaza, mostly aimed at backpackers and catering to an early-evening rather than late-night crowd.

Coffee in Vigan tends to mean barako — a strong, slightly bitter Robusta variety grown in the Batangas region and popular across northern Luzon. Several of the heritage cafes along Calle Crisologo and the side streets serve it alongside local pastries and bibingka.
