Syquia Mansion

The Syquia Mansion is the ancestral home of Elpidio Quirino, the sixth President of the Philippines, and one of the best-preserved ilustrado houses in Vigan. Built in the late 19th century and now operated as a museum, it gives a more intimate picture of upper-class Ilocano life than the grand heritage streetscape outside suggests — the rooms are arranged much as they would have been in Quirino's childhood, with period furniture, family photographs, and personal effects preserved behind glass.

The house is a fine example of the bahay na bato typology: stone ground floor, timber upper floor, wide capiz-shell windows opening onto the street, and an interior courtyard. The museum covers Quirino's presidency (1948–1953), a period of post-war reconstruction when much of Manila was still in ruins, and includes documents and memorabilia from his political career alongside the domestic life of the family.

It is a quieter attraction than Calle Crisologo and rarely crowded, which makes it one of the more rewarding stops in the heritage zone. The entrance fee is modest and the guided tour, if one is available, adds context that is hard to get from the labels alone.
