Capones Island

Capones Island lies just off the coast of San Antonio municipality, reachable by bangka from Pundaquit in about 15–20 minutes. It is less visited than Anawangin and Nagsasa but has its own strong appeal: a 19th-century lighthouse on the island's western headland, a pristine coral beach on the south side, and clear water suitable for snorkelling without crowds.

The lighthouse — the Capones Island Lighthouse, first lit in 1890 — sits on a hill above the western end of the island, surrounded by rock and scrub. Getting up to it requires a short scramble but the view from the base is one of the better vantage points on this stretch of coast. The beach below is calm and the reef immediately offshore has good fish diversity. Capones is commonly combined with visits to Anawangin and Nagsasa in a two-day island-hopping itinerary departing from Pundaquit.

A story
The lighthouse on Capones Island was first lit in 1890 and served as the main navigational marker for ships approaching Manila Bay from the north. During World War II, the lighthouse was destroyed and later rebuilt. Its position on the western tip of the island means it catches the full force of typhoon winds — the current structure has been reinforced multiple times.
